5 Day Top End Parks Tour for Families
Day 1 (L)
You will be collected from your Darwin accommodation at 7.30am for your private 5 day family 4WD tour Kakadu, Katherine and Litchfield.
We head south along the Stuart highway and into the Adelaide River wetlands region. At 9am we join a Jumping Crocodile cruise on the Adelaide River. Watch these amazing creatures leap up for a feed, from the safety of your boat.
After the cruise we visit the nearby Fogg Dam Conservation Reserve. These wetlands have international significance because of their beauty and natural ecosystems. A great variety of fauna can be found here throughout the year as well as a large variety of birdlife.
Continuing our journey along the Arnhem highway, we stop at the Bark Hut and then make our way into heritage listed Kakadu National park. Kakadu is the largest national park in Australia , has some of the world’s finest rock art and a variety of habitats, including floodplains and savannah woodlands.
Once within the park, we make our way to the north towards Ubirr Rock art site. Here we walk through galleries of ancient aboriginal rock art, which your guide will interpret. Also learn about bushtuckers and medicines before reaching the top of the plateau, where you can relax and enjoy the view over the floodplains.
Overnight accommodation - Bush Bungalow or cabin at Anbinik Resort OR hotel room at Mercure Crocodile Hotel
Day 2 (B,L)
After breakfast we make our way to Nourlangie Rock, an ancient Aboriginal shelter, where we will explore the area and the rock art. Your guide will lead you on an interpretive walk around the site, followed by Nawalandja Lookout. The short hike to the lookout is rewarded by a magnificent view over the Arnhemland escarpment.
Then we make our way to Maguk (Barramundi Gorge and falls), where a scenic drive along an unsealed dirt road, passing giant cathedral termite mounds, leads to the car park and from here, we take a walk through a paperbark forest and along the river to reach the gorge. Once at the gorge, and have a refreshing swim in the plungepool.
Dinner tonight is available to purchase at the lodge bistro.
Overnight accommodation at Kakadu Lodge Cooinda- motel room
Day 3 (B,L,D)
An early start today (but well worth it !) on the 6.45am sunrise Yellow Waters wildlife cruise, with it’s abundance of flora and fauna. Keep an eye out for saltwater crocodiles !
Back to the lodge for breakfast and then we make our way to the very south of the park to Gunlom. There is a large plunge pool at the base of the falls and you also have the option to take the walk to the top of the falls where pristine rock pools and a spectacular view await you.
After lunch, we depart Kakadu through the southern entrance towards Katherine Township and out to Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge, which is home to 13 spectacular gorges, carved out of the rock by torrential summer rains, over millions of years.
Overnight accommodation at Nitmiluk Gorge- fixed safari tents with shared bathrooms (no power or lighting) OR 2 bedroom cabin with en-sute. Dinner is included with the safari tents but not the cabins. Dinner is available to purchase at the poolside bistro.
Day 4 (B,L,D)
We start today with a 2 hour cruise through Nitmiluk Gorge. Nitnit Dreaming incorporates travel along two gorges, where you’ll discover the customs of the traditional land owners, the Jawoyn people.
After the cruise we depart Katherine and make our way north again, calling into Leilyn (Edith Falls), en-route. Leilyn is part of Nitmiluk National Park and is well known for it's picturesque waterfalls and pools, particularly the large pool at the base of the escarpment, which is great for a swim.
This evenings accommodation is at Mt Bundy Station. The station has an interesting history and is set in a picturesque bush setting, attracting a multitude of wildlife. There should be time this evening for a walk around the station, have a swim in the pool or you can visit the station animals.
Dinner tonight will be cooked by your guide.
Overnight accommodation at Mt Bundy Station - Stockmans rooms with shared bathrooms or sole use of the 2 bedroom Cooks Cottage with bathroom.

The Wright family vacation would not have been complete without our Sacred Earth Safari. This was a fantastic opportunity to see many monumental pieces of Australia in just a few short days. Between the authentic places to stay, the numerous beautiful falls we enjoyed, and the wealth of knowledge we gathered from you, it was a truly marvelous trip. Some of our favourite memories of our entire Australia tour include moments during our safari. Overall you were so accommodating with everything from making vegetarian meal options, to stopping as needed for the two kids and giving us information about our visiting spots while giving us space to have quality family time. Everything about the trip was superb, Thank you for everything.
